Maryland Black Democrats Complain About Support For Cardin

by @ 3:32 pm. Filed under Questionable Items

But…but, they told me Republicans were the “racist” party :D …..

Well so much for that theory of racism being the exclusive property of a political party :D .

Reading this article I could not help but laugh. Because all I could think is, if you feel the party leaders are doing you wrong based on race, why do you stay with them? Here are some excerpts, but you really should read this entire article:

Black Democrats Complain About Support For Cardin

Some black elected officials and activists say they are troubled by the swift support that prominent Democrats gave to U.S. Rep. Benjamin Cardin’s candidacy for the U.S. Senate

Mfume, a former congressman and NAACP president, was the first Democratic candidate to declare his candidacy for the race, but has struggled to raise money and garner endorsements.

there is a perception that white Democratic leaders are conspiring to deliver the nomination to Cardin.

In the early days of his campaign, Mfume scrambled to explain allegations of sexual harassment from his time as NAACP president and collected a 10th of the money raised by Cardin.

A group of 300 black Democrats in Montgomery County has also expressed its distaste for the early show of support for Cardin. The county’s African American Democratic Club mailed a letter to 28 white elected officials from Montgomery, accusing them of hastily endorsing Cardin without considering what their black constituents would think.

“This is another example of how the leadership of the Democratic Party takes for granted the African American voters of Montgomery County, in particular, and the State of Maryland in general,” wrote Ann De Lacy, the club’s president. “We urge you to either withdraw or to reconsider your endorsement of Mr. Cardin.”

I think it’s pretty funny how Black Democrats watch Blacks continually be overlooked for leadership positions, but remain loyal to the party.

On the Republican side, we see a very diversified Presidential cabinet with people who are all well qualified, the President did a campaign stump for Michael Steele and Republicans running with Steele was the first time a Black was selected to be Lt. Governor. While on the Democratic side there are cries of bias! And now in MD, the Democrats running for Governor are being told that they should get a Black running mate. I guess the first Black Governor of MD will end up being a Republican at this rate!

David Nitkin on state politics issues

Andrew, Gaithersburg: Is picking an African-American as his running mate the only way Gov. Ehrlich can win re-election?

Nitkin: Democrats Doug Duncan and Martin O’Malley are almost required to select African-American running mates (O’Malley has done so already) after Republican Ehrlich chose Michael S. Steele four years ago and won. Because he has already shown a willingness to reach out to minorities, and because Steele is running for Senate, Ehrlich has flexibility in whom he selects

This is just so funny! Now Democrats are the ones being told that they need to do a better job of “reaching out” to Blacks :D .

BAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Really the best candidate needs to be selected regardless of race, but this is really some funny stuff!

Many of the elected officials that are upset with Democrats probably could leave the party, run as Independents and still be re-elected in their area. But they won’t leave. Nope, they just stay and complain.

Interesting story…looks like you “scooped” Rob_R because there’s no mention of this story on his site.

    Anyway…

It’s kind of hard to complain about white people not supporting your candidate when he only raised $400,000. That would indicate that black folks ain’t supporting him either.

    Ditto what brooklyn said.

brooklyn - Who do you think used to send Rob some of his best scoops? Especially about Mfume. ;)

And remember, if a White group were to ever send a letter like that, it would be “racist”. This whole matter just tickles me to pieces!

Michael Steele Continues to Expose MD Democrats Racist Ways.

Win or lose, Michael Steele has pulled the covers off the racist views of some Maryland Democrats. You know, Maryland that state which is supposed to be so Liberal and in favor of diversity. Where Liberal Democratic policies result in high Black ab…
