Although I’m personally indifferent to the practice, my wife was passionate about our kids having a picture with “Santa Claus” this year. So we went to the mall near our house, waited in line for 2.5 hours and finally got the kids a picture with Santa. Our kids are too young at this point to actually offer their own thoughts on this. But I personally think waiting 2.5 hours for a picture with “Santa” is a sign of mild insanity
.
This practice of pictures with Santa presents an interesting question in some Black households. The question: “Do you want to go to the mall with the “Black Santa”? For those who did not know, many Black people actually discuss “which Santa” they will take their kids to see. Some people will intentionally by-pass several malls just to get to the mall with the “Black Santa”. The thought being that Black people should see a “Black Santa”. I think this takes what starts as mild insanity into the realm of pure insanity. It’s self segregation at it’s best! Personally I could care less what color the Santa at the mall is. So long as it is a man, who is kind and keeps my kids happy. I’m going to the mall nearest my home or one with a very short line
.
Now that I’ve spoken of Blacks that search for a Black Santa on Christmas, I must also mention what I’ve witnessed of some Whites. Once in my former hometown of Baltimore, MD a mall in a mostly White area hired a person to be “Santa”. This person happened to be a Black man. There were a flood of complaints from White parents. They could not imagine their children sitting on the lap of a Black man and calling him “Santa”. And this proves that the Santa race insanity is in the minds of Americans of various races.
So let me tell all you parents that feel “race matters” when it comes to Santa something you should have learned by the time you were 10 years old. Santa is not real! He was an invented character based on the life of Turkish Catholic Bishop Nicholas. A Bishop who was raised to the level of Sainthood by the Catholic church, because of his incredibly long list of good deeds during his life. I think everyone should read about the life of Saint Nicholas. It’s an incredible story that shows why some common Christmas traditions are still carried out today. Now who is running to a mall to complain that they want a Turkish Catholic Bishop to play the role of “Santa”? Nobody. So this Santa race madness needs to stop! Because there is no plane from Turkey coming to the USA every year full of Turkish men with white beards. In fact, I’d enjoy watching the reactions of some parents, if a mall actually hired a Turkish man to play the role of Santa in a mall outside of a majority Muslim community in America.
It is a shame that the role of a mall Santa can’t be filled by the best qualified candidate regardless of race.
Now whether or not parents want to tell there kids that “Santa” is actually real and not just some guy in a suit at the mall is really up to each individual home. Nobody ever complains about the Tooth Fairy. Just the same I think it is just terrible what this teacher did. Theresa Farrisi, you crossed the line. It was not your place to tell a bunch of impressionable 6 and 7 year old children something contrary to their parents in regards to something as trivial as the existence of Santa Claus. I think Ms. Farrisi should be fired just because she made a classroom full of children cry!
