Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis stands up for people who want to say Merry Christmas

by @ 1:06 pm. Filed under Evangelicals Under Attack, The Truth Shall Set you Free!

Virginia Republican Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis introduced a resolution that supports people who wish to celebrate the national holiday of Christmas. As Bill O’Reilly pointed out on his show last night, these 22 congresspeople voted against that resolution.

H.RES.579

H. Res. 579

In the House of Representatives, U.S.,

December 15, 2005.

Whereas Christmas is a national holiday celebrated on December 25; and

Whereas the Framers intended that the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States would prohibit the establishment of religion, not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialog: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

(1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;

(2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and

(3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions, for those who celebrate Christmas.

You can see the actual roll call vote here. Even Cynthia McKinney voted for this resolution! The total vote was 402-22 with 5 present votes and 5 not voting at all. Come on now, if McKinney and over 400 other congresspeople can agree on something, then everyone can and there is a glimmer of hope for this nation.

Some attempt to act as if Christmas has not been attacked. Those same people that claim there are no attacks against Christmas never say anything against groups like the ACLU, that is the group often attacking Christmas. When any group of officials caves into the ACLU, those same people who say that standing up for Christmas is a waste of time never say the time spent caving in is a waste of time. There are plenty of examples to prove that there are efforts under way to do away with Christmas. (And those are just the examples the ADF was involved in.) As Jerry (former promoter of segregation) Fallwell mentioned on Bill’s show last night, he has 100 examples of attacks on Christmas for anyone that request them. (And yes anytime I mention Jerry Fallwell, I will include that he was a strong supporter of segregation. If Robert KKK Byrd is going to have the KKK I’m not going to forget Conservatives that were a party to the hate. I like many of Fallwell’s efforts today, but his personal past makes me watch my shoulder, just like KKK Bryd!)

For ordinary people the facts are plain. Children are coming home from school telling their parents that they were told they won’t sing songs like Silent Night this year. We who are older remember when time off from school was called Christmas break. We remember when companies had Christmas parties. Now all references to the word Christmas have been replaced with the word “Holiday”. If Christians did not take a stand, at this rate Christmas would become the Winter Festival it used to be, before Christians made it a better and more holy celebration. That’s right Liberals, we hijacked the Winter Festival, injected God into it and we’re not giving it back! It’s now Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Christ, a national holiday and we will ensure the name of this national holiday is known so long as this Republic is in existence.

As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. Which is why a pro-gay news site has deemed Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis as their “Creep of the Week“. (They incorrectly mentioned that John Conyers voted against the resolution. While he took issue with it, he voted for it.)

Christians should not worry over these attacks against our faith and our Lord. Here are some words Jesus shared with his disciples, that are well suited for today. While we are not facing the issues that some Christians do face in other nations, we must continue to defend the faith. Otherwise we might hasten the day such persecution befalls us!

John 15:18-27 (New King James Version)

18) ?If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

19) If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

20) Remember the word that I said to you, ?A servant is not greater than his master.? If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

21) But all these things they will do to you for My name?s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

22) If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.

23) He who hates Me hates My Father also.

24) If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father.

25) But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ?They hated Me without a cause.

26) ?But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

27) And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

Our helper the Holy Spirit has come! So proclaim the Lord’s name without fear. Fight the good fight of faith until our Lord’s return.
