4 William Carey College students expelled for using a generator after Hurricane Katrina

by @ 4:47 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

The 4 expelled students are accused of various violations, that I feel should not have been applied during an emergency situation.

There is a racial component that may or may not have been a factor in it all. But regardless of race, the explosions defy sound logic given the circumstances.

You can read the details in this article.

Dick Morris avoids the toughest question about Condoleezza Rice running for President

by @ 5:05 pm. Filed under Questionable Items

Condi vs. HillarySo I’m going to give him a little free advice.

While watching C-SPAN2’s Book TV, which featured Dick Morris at a speaking engagement about his book Condi vs. Hillary. He was asked a question that he partially avoided. While he was able to bounce back most questions like a tennis champion, this one he could not fully address. The question was near the end of the Q&A session and was the following: (I’m paraphrasing, but this was basically the gist of the question) “How will Condoleezza Rice ever get enough votes, when she has never been elected to a public office, is female and Black?”

First regarding her never being elected to a public office. Dick Morris had to acknowledge she has never been elected, but he was able to point out that she has been head administrator over several multi-billion dollar institutions. Including heading the State Department now. He also pointed out that the office of the President is an Administrative position. What he failed to mention is that people like George Washington, Zachary Taylor, Ulysses S. Grant, Herbert Hoover, Dwight D. Eisenhower and William Howard Taft were never elected by way of a public vote to any office prior to becoming President. (I include George Washington in my list because he was never elected to an office by public vote in the old colonies.) For the sake of his point, Mr. Morris probably did not want to touch the Commander-in-Chief aspects, but being National Security Advisor she’s already made recommendations that involve our Armed Forces! Also her never being elected has it’s positive aspects. She has never been influenced by special interest groups. She does not need to feel that she might ?owe? any state any share of pork for past votes! In a sense she is PURE from the outside influences that have tainted so many Presidents and other politicians!

Regarding her being female, Dick Morris totally avoided this part of the question in his response. What he should have mentioned is that in a race between Condi and Hillary, both of them are women. So that mutes the point of her being female. Against a man, her being female could prove to be more of a benefit. Given the ?soccer mom? vote has been an influential swing vote. In a race against a man it might help her, if some women vote on the basis of gender. It’s bigoted, but still a factor to consider. If people would vote against her based on gender others will vote for her because of gender. So a woman running for President may have a base of support in her gender. States across the nation have elected women to positions of leadership in statewide votes. A national election is nothing more than winning the majority of various states’ electoral college votes. So a woman should not see any issues in running for President simply because of her gender and may even receive additional votes because of it.

The last part of the question was also avoided by Mr. Morris. And it probably is the easiest to respond to. Condoleezza Rice being a Black woman may cause some bigots to vote against her. But for every vote she would not get from bigots who don’t want a Black to be President, she would gain from some minorities that in their own bigotry want a minority as President, just because she is a minority. When Sean Hannity asked Dick Gregory if he would vote for Condi to be President he said YES, because he would be helping to make ?history?. Making history does not give anyone any extra abilities to run a nation, but some people will allow race to influence their vote. And Dick Gregory is a big time racist bigot! Dick Morris has mentioned often that he feels Condi could get the majority of the Black vote if she ran for President. I personally think she would get about 30-40%. And even at that amount, she would bring in a higher percentage of Black voters than any Republican Presidential candidate since Richard Nixon. Many Black voters are in key swing states! Blacks have won statewide elections even in Deep South states like Georgia. Where the Attorney General, Commissioner of Labor and State Supreme Court Chief Justice are all Black and were all elected in statewide elections. The Chief Justice of GA’s Supreme Court is a Black woman, who was just reelected in 2004.

I’ve also heard people complain about Condoleezza Rice’s stance on abortion. While she is not for the Federal Government banning abortion, she is against the Federal Government being involved in the issue at all.

We should not have the federal government in a position where it is forcing its views on one side or the other.

Which means it would again be a state’s rights issue, like before the Roe versus Wade decision by the US Supreme Court. For now, all Pro-Lifers want Roe v. Wade overturned! And given Condoleezza Rice’s view of the Federal Government not being involved, that is consistent with overturning Roe v. Wade! So she is a candidate that Pro-Lifers should consider voting for.

Now I’ve said a lot in defense of Dr. Rice. But I must say that I personally do not think she should run for President in 2008. I think she should be VP on a ticket first, then make a run for President. If she ran in 2008, I can’t say I would definitely vote for her. It would depend on the field of candidates. I do know in 2004 if she was running for President instead of George W. Bush, given the 2004 field of candidates I would have voted for her. And being an Independent, I did review all candidates in 2004. The Constitution Party and Libertarian candidates both looked good, but not good enough.

update (12/7/2005 11:54AM ET): La Shawn Barber is wondering if this match-up will ever happen. There is no doubt Hillary will get the Democratic nomination. The only question is whether Condi will remain firm on her position to not run.

Shay of Blog Booker Rising is asking some questions about things I answered in this post. I must say that I find Shay’s lack of faith in Conservative voters to endorse Condi to be a bit disappointing. If Condi does run, she will realize Conservatives love Condi and will vote for her.

God Bless America!

by @ 12:06 am. Filed under The Truth Shall Set you Free!

Many say it! Some resent it! But all should know how the statement came to be and why it should never end!

After seeing Chris Rock’s Head of State, I was saddened at how he and co-writer Ali LeRoi attempted to cheapen the phrase “God Bless America”. (I’ve heard some other Liberals do the same.) As if it is some statement of selfish pride! I highly doubt that Chris Rock and Ali LeRoi know the history of the phrase. So for the benefit of all I will explain it here.

God Bless America, Land That I Love

In 1918 during the First World War, Irving Berlin wrote the song for a show at his army camp, at Camp Yaphank in Long Island, NY. It was rejected by the show producers as being too jingoistic. To think, after all the times in the Bible where followers of God asked the Lord to bless them and/or their territory! It is illogical for anyone to feel that singing amongst our soldiers that God Bless America during a war is too jingoistic! Well God’s divine providence ensured that we would sing for him to bless us eventually! And that happened before the start of World War II in 1938. The manager of Kate Smith (a popular singer of that time) asked Mr. Berlin to create a song for Kate to use to mark the 20th anniversary of the Armistice that brought an end to World War I. Eventually Mr. Berlin presented an updated version of “God Bless America”! And the rest is history! Americans have loved the song ever since!

This song came into being while US troops were at war, in need inspiration and hope! It was first presented to the nation as another war was looming! It is a hope that God Bless this great nation we live in! And while it is specific to America, it does not mean we don’t wish well for others that recognize the Lord. To the contrary, we pray they sing a version for their own nation. We know many nations do not accept God at all, but we are happy to sing his praises and ask for his blessings over us! We can only pray that those who do not know the Lord one day come to know him.

So click here to get the lyrics, listen to the tune and sing the song God Bless America!

Happy Thanksgiving!

by @ 12:06 am. Filed under The Truth Shall Set you Free!

I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving Day. And here are some words about the holiday that I feel sum it up best!

The Thanksgiving Proclamation from our first President, George Washington!

George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation – New York, 3 October 1789

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor– and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be– That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks–for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation–for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war–for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed–for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted–for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions– to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually–to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord–To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us–and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Go: Washington

And never did a court in the land find it to be a violation of the US Constitution. And never did President Washington force anyone to participate.

Well said President Washington!

Hugh Hewitt Presidential Straw Poll

by @ 9:10 pm. Filed under Questionable Items

Take Hugh Hewitt’s poll, which covers future potential Presidential candidates and other Conservative matters.

I’m wondering why Rick Santorum is not on the ballot? Personally my dream ticket is a Santorum President, Rice VP ticket!
