Congressman John Murtha has not been a “hawk” for some time!

by @ 12:44 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

It’s funny to hear the MSM call Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha a “hawk”. HA! What a joke! This man has had US Forces running from hard fights since Somalia!

He’s all ready for the fight at the outset, but once the going gets tough, Murtha gets going! As in wanting to pull the troops!

NewsMax is reporting how he was the man behind the 1993 Somalia pullout! You remember, “Black Hawk Down” and warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid left in power when Bill Clinton cut a deal with him!

Rep. John Murtha Urged Somalia Pullout in ‘93

After terrorists attacked U.S. troops in Mogadishu, Somalia 12 years ago, anti-Iraq war Democrat, Rep. John Murtha urged then-President Clinton to begin a complete pullout of U.S. troops from the region.

Clinton took the advice and ordered the withdrawal – a decision that Osama bin Laden would later credit with emboldening his terrorist fighters and encouraging him to mount further attacks against the U.S.

“Our welcome has been worn out,” Rep Murtha told NBC’s “Today” show in Sept. 1993, a month after 4 U.S. Military Police had been killed in Somalia by a remote-detonated land mine.

Oh yea, some hawk  !

Then yesterday on Meet the Press, Tim Russert had to call him on his latest flip-flop!

Meet the Press Transcript for November 20, 2005

MR. RUSSERT: As you well know, this is a profound change in your own thinking. Last year in the epilogue to your paperback book, you wrote this: “A war initiated on faulty intelligence must not be followed by a premature withdrawal of our troops based on a political timetable. An untimely exit could rapidly devolve into a civil war, which would leave America’s foreign policy in disarray as countries question not only America’s judgment but also its perseverance.” And this: “It would be an international disaster I think if we pulled out.” Civil war, questioning America’s perseverance, international disaster– why is it any different now than it was a year ago?

REP. MURTHA: I’ll tell you why it’s different. It’s different because there’s no progress at all. When I went to Iraq about two months ago, I talked to the commanders. Now, I–the commanders say what they’re supposed to say, but I can tell how discouraged they are.

If he would have listened to those commanders he might realize they were telling him the truth! They are the ones saying that the troops should stay!

A U.S. colonel in Iraq said the “job is not done” and U.S. troops should not leave. It’s a response to western Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha?s call for withdrawal from Iraq.

The commander with the 56th Brigade Combat Team said troops have “made great strides” in supporting Iraq’s transition to democracy.

Now if Congressman Murtha is having trouble realizing all the great accomplishments made in Iraq over the past year, I invite him to look at all these accomplishments made in Iraq over the past year and earlier!

Congressman Murtha is calling on Iraqis to take back their country and US troops to pull back! Well he must have the shortest memory in America! We tried telling them to take their country and pulling out troops when George H.W. Bush was President! And thousands of Kurds were gassed! They are trying and have been trying to take the country! They needed help then and they still need help getting things stable now! Ironically Congressman Murtha claims US forces have destablized Iraq! I did not find Iraq to be “stable” when Saddam was in power! Given Congressman Murtha’s history with calling for pull-outs, I don’t think his opinion on when to leave should be valued!

I have no doubt that Congressman Murtha loves our troops. He just wants to take action that would be a terrible idea!

H RES 571 that was voted down is not much different from Congressman John Murtha’s H. J. RES. 73

Democrats are saying that the vote to pull out was not “John Murtha’s bill”. But when you look at the text it is not very different.

John Murtha’s sudden jump into the media spotlight might be a clever cover!

Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha has some “interesting” connections with companies he is granting government contracts to!

A US House Resolution Against Hate in Saudi Textbooks is a Good Thing, Right?

The US House passed a resolution today, that expresses concern about the content of textbooks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Our “friend” in the war on terrorism!
