Unions up to their racist ways again?

by @ 3:52 pm. Filed under Unions Destroying America

Wise Construction Inc. owner Jessie Wise went to work on a “union job” Monday, but found that he was not welcome. He says racism played a hand in it all. It’s time to review that and a history of racism in Unions, which helped bring about the unconstitutional failure known as Affirmative Action!

First the Jessie Wise story:

Black contractor sez union ‘racist’

An African-American building contractor working for Nassau County said yesterday he was booted from a Mineola job site by union representatives who used a racist epithet.

“They stood in the way and told me, ‘You’re not starting the machine,’” Wise told the Daily News, regarding the excavation job he still has not started.

“I gave them the contract … and the business agent said, ‘—- you, you black ——-,’ and tore it up.

“I was the only black man,” Wise continued. “I was fearing for my safety a bit.”

Although the details on this are still fluid, I’m not at all surprised that a Union may have intentionally denied a Black person work.

The history of Unions being a full out tool for racism is about as long as the history of Unions in America! In the 1920’s Black rail company workers that wanted better treatment from management attempted to join the unions of that time. (And back then they really were getting a hard time from management and much of that is prevented by now existing Federal laws.) The Unions which were all White would not allow Blacks in to leverage the Union muscle for better treatment. This is what inspired socialist Asa Philip Randolph to press for Blacks to get Union representation. It is such a historic event that it was the basis for the movie 10,000 Black Men Named George. Asa like some other Blacks was under the impression that Socialism would somehow help avoid racism! WRONG! Even in socialist and communist nations racism exist and outside of a free market there is no way for minorities to effectively compete! In a free market a minority can under-bid to get work if necessary!

Then we spin to 1931 when the Davis-Bacon Act was devised to help Unions. As I have mentioned before, this was simply another racist action to keep Blacks from being able to under-bid for work!

And the Union racism does not stop there! In the 1960’s and 1970’s Unions are the reason Affirmative Action was first ever actually implemented. And SURPRISE it was implemented at the command of Conservative Republican President Richard Nixon!

Nixon Era Center Library

While Presidents Kennedy and Johnson had employed the term “affirmative action,” it “did not have much bite” until the Nixon administration announced a revised “Philadelphia Plan” in 1969 requiring federal contractors in the construction industry to hire minority workers. Secretary of Labor George Shultz later extended this plan to nine other cities. Shultz also issued the first guidelines requiring businesses with federal contracts to draw up “action plans” for hiring and promoting women. In other words, not until the Nixon administration did “affirmative action” begin to become synonymous with “civil rights.” When the Rehnquist court decided in City of Richmond v. J. A. Croson, 109 S. Ct. 706 (1989) that “set asides” for minority construction workers were unconstitutional, much to the surprise of most Americans, legal specialists recalled that they had been initiated with the Philadelphia Plan twenty years earlier by the Nixon administration.

If you like you can read other information about it all here.

The Philadelphia Plan was an effort that President Nixon was behind, because a major Philadelphia Union was not allowing Blacks to be hired! Nixon felt that a suitable counter would be to force Blacks in. Unfortunately this did nothing to get rid of racist managers already there and forcing Blacks in ahead of others just because of skin tone was found to be unconstitutional. As many of today’s Affirmative Action programs will be found to be unconstitutional as well. Because it simply is. If Nixon wanted to do it right he would have devised a means to swiftly prosecute the racist managers that were behind keeping Blacks out of jobs. Eliminate the racists! Don’t go trying to counter their wrong with the same sort of action towards a different group, while allowing the racists to remain! Being Black myself I know that whenever I ask Blacks “who do you know that got into a school or a job because of Affirmative Action?”, most can’t name anyone. Or if they can they might know one or only a handful. Most Blacks that get anything do so via their own hard work. And when I ask “who do you know that prepared themselves properly to make-it in life and is living in poverty because of racism?”… Nobody has been able to name a person yet! And if they do it is because that individual selected a career path that does not pay well or is already failing for most who choose it regardless of race! While Liberals toss around a lot of talk about Affirmative Action being good, it is the biggest Red Herring I’ve ever seen many Blacks try to protect in my entire life!

There you have it. The racist history of Unions and given all the Federal Labor Law they are no longer needed today! But it looks like they might still be up to their old racist tricks!

Now I’m sure some Black Union supporter might read this and say “well there are Black Union leaders now who help fight racism in the workplace”… What they won’t say is that the same way White racists are using Unions to keep out minorities, Black Union racists are doing the same to “protect” their jobs from Latinos that are not illegals.

I say, no Unions or Affirmative Action. Just prosecute racists and allow the free market to work!
