Harriet Miers’ 1989 questionnaire to Texans United for Life showed her as pro-life, but a speech she gave in 1993 shows just the opposite! As I have pointed out previously, she seems to change her view depending on the setting. This latest finding about her pushing very Liberal views comes 4 years after the questionnaire she completed for Texans United for Life. So this latest find is very disturbing! It is so disturbing that Operation Rescue declares:
Operation Rescue Says, “This Is The Last Straw!”
“In recent weeks, the only evidence that has been forthcoming concerning Miers judicial philosophy – if any – especially concerning life issues has caused us to be more concerned than ever that Miers is not the right person for this job,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“We have a message for the President,” said Newman. “Read my lips: Your nomination of Harriet Miers has little to no support among the conservative base that re-elected you. In the best interest of this nation, please withdraw Miers’ name from consideration to the nation’s highest court, and appoint someone with proven conservative credentials, or face a battle of epic proportions that will spill into the mid-term elections with devastating consequences for you and the Republican Party.”

Now those are fighting words! When I read them I wondered “how bad can it be”. What could she have said that was just that bad? To cause Operation Rescue to lash out like this. I must say, I was expecting to find that maybe Operation Rescue was being fooled by the media as has happened before with Ms. Miers. But then I read the speech for myself!!!! At that point I knew Ms. Miers is being totally inconsistent and the speech is enough to make any self-respecting Conservative shutter! Her record shows that she is not credible! Her statements change depending on who she is looking at!

Sometimes I believe that elected officials would rather abandon to the courts the hard questions so they can respond to constituents: I did not want to do that — the Court is making me. Many of the decisions that really need to be made are hard and unpopular. So its just politically advantageous to not make them.

There is no question that Dallas is a basically segregated city and that there is a great need for the development of housing around the city in areas where amenities exist.

Another example, school financing. The funding system in Texas is unacceptable. There were schools which could not operate because the community had insufficient tax base to raise money sufficient to support a worthwhile public education system. As a result in some areas of the State the children were being denied a meaningful education.

My basic message here is that when you hear the Courts blamed for activism or intrusion where they do not belong…Stop and examine what the elected leadership has done to solve the problem at issue and whether abdication to courts to make the hard decisions is not too prevalent tactic in today’s world.

Why do we think racial issues will die down? For example, how do we think all of the efforts by business and in the white community to attempt to improve the schools will succeed when we fail the ultimate test. We won’t put our kids in the public school!!!!!

Where science determines the facts, the law can effectively govern. However, when science cannot determine the facts and decisions vary based upon religious belief, then government should not act.

Well I agree with Operation Rescue! This Is The Last Straw!!! I’ve gone from supporting Miers and giving her the benefit of the doubt, to finding so much evidence that shows she is unsuitable, that I can support nothing but a vigorous stance against the nomination of Harriet Miers to the US Supreme Court! And I’ve already mentioned who should be picked in her place!
