The FEMA-Gate e-mails!

by @ 1:34 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

Michelle Malkin is covering the e-mails that detail a lack of seriousness on the part of some FEMA officials.

She is right to say:

I think it is important for conservatives not to turn a blind eye to bureaucratic incompetence and arrogance. There’s no excuse.

Say it all together now: Michael Brown being fired was a good thing!

If you run FEMA and you are worried about your nice sit-down dinner while people are drowning! YOU’RE NUTS!

update (10/21/2005 4:52PM ET): Did some quick transcription of parts of a couple of interesting e-mails.

The first I will list portions of an e-mail below that mentions FEMA’s responsibilities before a disaster has struck. And these are responsibilities many critics of the Federal Government’s role should know. So be sure to tell this to anyone who mistakenly feels it was the Federal Government’s job to move people out ahead of the storm.

Although FEMA does not oversee evacuation and sheltering, we may feel the effects of local decisions pretty soon.

Bottom line: Did FEMA fill requests from the state and local officials.

Bottom line, if state and local officials had done a better job themselves there would have been less of a burden to deal with after the storm hit! And of course it would have helped if more people who could have left actually did leave!

This other message is a priceless expression from someone on the ground at the time. After hearing that other higher ups in FEMA were going to get some dinner. And he was asked how much time he might need to eat at the restaurant of his choice, while others would be off doing the same. Keep in mind, people drowning, people hurting, children hungry all while this is taking place.

(Misspelled Ruth Chris.)

OH MY GOD!!!!!! No won’t go any further, too easy of a target. Just tell her that I just ate an MRE and crapped in a hallway of the Superdome along with 30,000 other close friends so I understand her concern about busy restaurants. Maybe tonight I will have time to move the pebbles on the parking garage floor so they don’t stab me in the back while I try to sleep, but instead I will hope her wait at Ruth Christ is short. But I know she is stressed so I won’t make a big deal about it and you shouldn’t either.

Evacuations began the following day.

One would have hoped that more of the big decision makers and higher ups in FEMA were more like Marty! In times like that they all should have been enjoying an MRE and getting back to work. Not trying to find the restaurant of their choice!
