Poverty Pimps score temporary victory in Georgia Voter ID Law case

by @ 11:17 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

Various GA Poverty Pimps, Race Warlords and the ACLU united to find a judge that issued a temporary injunction against Georgia’s voter ID law.

Judge Blocks Voter ID Law

The law, which the legislature approved earlier this year, requires every voter to pay at least $20 for a state-issued photo ID, and show it in order to cast a ballot.

Critics who filed suit against the law say that amounts to an unconstitutional poll tax, even though it is possible to get the photo ID for free.

Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker is not commenting. He is expected to ask Judge Murphy to reconsider his ruling.

If Judge Murphy does not, then Baker is likely to ask the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to lift the injunction.

A member of the state elections board, Randy Evans, said Tuesday afternoon the board still believes photo IDs are necessary to prevent voter fraud.

Evans says he hopes the appeals court overrules the judge prior to the November 8 elections.

And so for a night the collective band of Liberal nuts are literally dancing! But sound reason will win in the end I am sure. And Georgia’s Voter ID law will be upheld! Setting an example for the rest of the nation to follow in an effort to curb fraudulent voting. Being Black myself it really stinks to see these race hustlers act like this new law is some kind of “poll tax”. Anyone who cannot afford a photo ID will be provided one for free and plenty of people have already been given them for free. Despite what the Liberal hustlers say, folks have no problem finding a photo ID when it is time to cash a check, enter a club, buy a drink, buy cigarettes, use a credit card where they are asked for ID to verify identity or when they need to show one to verify their identity for some government benefits!

There are some like my Conservative brother Herman Cain who dislike the Voter ID law because GA Tech students could use their IDs, but Morehouse College students cannot. Well that’s because state schools issue state IDs. And private schools like Morehouse do not. So of course Morehouse students who are mostly Black (it is a Historically Black College aka HBCU) cannot use their IDs and other students at other private colleges cannot either! But students at state funded HBCUs like Fort Valley State University and Savannah State University would be able to use their student ID cards to vote. So there is no race based bias, although people like Herman Cain attempt to imply that there is! Anyone who can afford private school tuition could easily get a state ID card, although they could claim they need a free one too! (Sorry, but I have to say it, as great a man as he is sometimes Herman Cain allows race pimps to use the old fear tactics to get the best of him!)

Well we all know who benefits most from fraudulent voting! So we know the real reason why the assorted group of nuts fought against the law.

This law, was reviewed by the Federal Government as mandated in provisions of the Voting Rights Act and was found not to be in violation!

Well I can only hope that State Attorney General Thurbert Baker does the right thing!

update (10/19/2005 12:26AM ET): Blogger Bob Griggs notes:

Finally, since the bulk of the argument against the new law revolves around the alleged impact that it will have on ?poor? black folk, I find it deliciously ironic that Georgia?s first black legislator to be elected in a contested election since Reconstruction, Melvin Everson, was chosen last month in an election in which every voter had to show a picture ID.

He won a 3 way race against Warren Auld and Garry Rhodes.

update (10/19/2005 12:10PM ET): There is some misinformation about this law that must be dispelled.

First there have been questions asked about whether there ever was voter fraud in GA. Basically asking if there was a justifiable need to have a voter ID law in the first place. This question in it’s self is a total joke to anyone who has lived in GA for some years. Because the question is not IF there has been fraud but HOW MUCH FRAUD HAS THERE BEEN??!!!

As the Cato Institute mentions:

A recent study in Georgia found more than 15,000 dead people on active voting rolls statewide.

In Georgia, analysts found that over 5,400 dead people had voted over the past 20 years.

This was very big news when it was discovered. But funny how our Secretary of state who is a Democrat planning to run for Governor herself can’t seem to recall things like this. Maybe it has something to do with her planning to run against the current sitting Governor Republican Sonny Perdue!

I even have a friend who was getting a home built and someone made a false voter registration to his new address before he even moved into the house!

Here’s an old article that shows her sudden case of amnesia!

Secretary of State Cathy Cox, who opposes the new photo ID law even though she’s responsible for enforcing it, told Judge Harold Murphy that the law is unnecessary. Cox testified that she had never known a case in Georgia of anyone posing as someone else in order to vote.

What’s more funny is that she has been the sitting Secretary of State while some of the fraud was going on! And she even mentions some of the loopholes in this law that might still allow for some fraud! You would think she’d be working to help close those loopholes instead of trying to hold even this law with loopholes back! Given the law is better than nothing at all!

These claims of no fraud are simply ridiculous and shameless partisan lies!

Also there have been claims that people might not be able to go out and get an ID card. Well even that issue was addressed when this became law. Also from the article:

Gov. Sonny Perdue has said since signing the law last Spring that the photo ID requirement is a common sense step to ensure good elections. He added that the indigent can get free photo IDs and that a state van goes from county to county to make sure that it’s easy for the poor to get their ID.

I have not heard of any cases of that van avoiding poor or minority communities!

So when you hear claims of this law not addressing certain issues. Know that those issues were considered and fully addressed even before this became law. This whole debate is nothing more than race-cards, poverty-cards and elderly-cards being tossed around to cover partisan motives!

11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will not lift the injunction on GA Voter ID law, but will expidite hearing the case.

In a bittersweet decision they will not allow the law to be enforce for now. But I am sure the full court will get this thing right!

Pretty funny that Joseph Lowery would oppose GA’s Voter ID law, considering the actions of his own group!

In 2004, just prior to the November election a group working with Joseph Lowery was found to be submitting fraudulent voter registrations.
