Two powerful Civil Rights icons have passed. First I will mention C. Delores Tucker who died at 78 on Wednesday. Let me tell you this blog would not exist without her influence in my life. Before hearing her speak at my Alma Mater Morgan State University I felt the trash in music was just a form of “art”. And that it was “not that bad”. She in a single speech showed me the rising problem that I had to help fight! Going into the speech I did not like her and felt she was just a loud mouth giving kids a hard time. I left that speech in awe with total respect for her! While she was a big time Democrat, she was on the right side of the culture war when it came to trash in music. She literally said words that changed my opinion, by offering insight into the issue back when smut was not even ruling the charts like it does today.

Even a broken clock like Julian Bond can get the time right twice a day I guess… Mrs. Tucker, I am deeply saddened by your passing. I will work to continue your struggle to fight this trash that has taken over Black culture today! While I take a more Conservative approach to some matters than you may have, you have my eternal respect! I pray you rest in peace with the Lord.
Also Vivian Malone Jones passed away on Thursday at age 63. This woman stood up to George Wallace who attempted to block her entry into the University of Alabama! I feel people like George Wallace discredited the label of “Conservative” given he could not respect the CONSTITUTIONAL guarantee of equal protection provided by the 14th Amendment!
Article XIV.

That Amendment was enacted to counter “black codes” which were used to limit the rights of newly freed slaves in 1868. Vivian Malone Jones helped to ensured that the US Constitution was enforced in all states by fighting in one of toughest at the time when it came to racial matters.

To you also goes respect and I also pray you rest in peace with the Lord.

This was a woman of courage.
D - It is sad that in our community we have a group of people who are profiting greatly from pimping certain words and images to us that have attacked this great woman who’s only goal was to not allow these pimps to have their way with our community and the images that are flowing into it.
In today’s world it is so true that “what was wrong is now right and what was right is now wrong”.
Sadly these very same people who are pulling the bricks out of the foundation one by one are the main one’s complaining about how THE SYSTEM is screwing them and all of this is due to racism.
The Black community don’t need more “leaders”. We need more people who are willing to TELL THE TRUTH.

Some folks never want to hear that someone with a darker skin tone is doing something wrong. Sadly for many folks the money justifies anything. Sometimes some Blacks will blame non-Blacks that were running these record companies. But if you look at who runs the Urban music departments today there are many Black faces in charge of this mess.
Also many people do not realize that when Mrs. Tucker took her issue to the record company excutives BILL BENNETT WAS RIGHT THERE WITH HER BY HER SIDE!!! He was always working with her on the issue and he also was being attacked then along with her. See this article that mentions a commercial they made together http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05286/587711.stm Not to mention the community service work his wife does that helps many Black women.

A Black Man Speaks On The Pimpin’ Oscars
Some men out there don’t believe that I have any right to hold an opinion on the movie “Hustle and Flow”, its song “It’s Hard Out There for a Pimp”, and it’s reflection on black men in general because: a) I’m white, and b) …
