Time to give it up Roy

by @ 11:30 pm. Filed under Sports

I still remember the day I was watching Roy Jones Jr. fight for the gold in the Olympics and after a fight the world was sure he won some (admitted) paid off judges denied him the gold he should have been awarded that day. I’ve been a fan of his ever since. But a man needs to know when he’s been in the game too long. And for Roy, he’s been in about 3 fights too long and it’s time for him to get out of boxing and stick to commentating. Tonight Roy lost that 3rd of 3 fights too long in his boxing career. In a decision he lost AGAIN to Antonio Tarver. I feel Roy did beat him the first time they fought, but after Roy won a heavyweight belt he should have NEVER gone back down in weight again. In fact he should have just retired after beating John Ruiz for that heavyweight title.

Tonight after the loss an ESPN commentator asked him if he would continue boxing and Roy said “yes”. The commentator asked “why”. To which Roy responded “because God is good” or some similar wording. He said that God blessed him and he is spreading that blessing by continuing to fight. Roy has been knocked cold in 2 of his last 3 fights and decisively lost this last fight. Like Evander Holyfield, Roy now has this mental complex where he feels that God wants a well decorated, rich man, who is out of his prime to continue boxing when it’s obvious he’s no longer on top of the game. Roy, Evander and you others, please stop this foolishness. If you want to continue fighting just say “I’m an egomaniac and an idiot who can’t accept I’m no longer on top. And oh yea I like the extra money too.” Because that’s what really is going on and God has nothing to do with it.

Now you guys stop talking that foolishness and sit your out of prime butts down! You do the faith no favors by attributing your foolishness to God.
